Safe Arena Footing is a non-profit organization with over 100 years of accumulated practical experience of preparation for livestock events. Our goal is to produce safe surfaces that will be consistent and fair for all participants from coast to coast.

SAF (Safe Arena Footing) is a newly-formed group which is seeking the involvement of industry professionals and organizations which have an interest in equestrianfooting standards. SAF is in the process of affiliating with the equestrian footings subcommittee within ASTM International (ASTM subcommittee F08.28). ASTM International (formerly American Society of Testing and Materials) is the world’s foremost industry standards organization. As SAF continues to organize, invitations will be offered to rodeo committees, producers, trainers and tractor drivers to join forces with SAF. We hope that this will eventually lead to a certification program that would allow your event grounds to be stamped as ‘SAF approved’; lending a higher level of consciousness and professionalism to ground preparation.
NOW there is a way you can raise your clay level without adding hundreds of tons of material to your track or arena.
clay-MONT is:
- COST EFFECTIVE
- easy application
- LOW MAINTENANCE
- high clay content
- DOESN'T DISTURB PARTICLE DISTRIBUTION
NOW there is a low cost, easy addition of clay that will not add tons of sand at the same time, saving tons of money in application and down time.
"The most convenient, cost effective way to raise your clay levels."
clay-MONT is a unique spreadable dry-granule form of natural clay amendment.
When added as an amendment to sand (or sandy soil), clay-MONT provides increased cohesiveness and plasticity, increased water holding and nutrient-retention capacity (and pH buffering capacity), and increased mechanical stability.
clay-MONT features a high ionic charge, good cohesion, and high plasticity to create the ideal surface in tracks and arenas.
clay-MONT is an ideal clay amendment source in renovation programs to improve equestrian surfaces (race tracks, arenas, training facilities), providing the greatest value compared to a typical clay amendment source.
The spreadable, dry-granule form of the product allows for ease in shipment and in product handling. The product can be spread across a surface and incorporated without sticking, clogging, plugging, etc. As the product is exposed to moisture in the soil, it will begin to absorb water and become physically, chemically, and mechanically active.
clay-MONT is delivered in one ton "super sacks" and is easy to apply with any spreader type truck or hopper. clay-MONT is worked in with your normal maintenance routines and requires virtually no down time.

We attend Surface & Veterinary Seminars around the country to learn and share knowledge about different surfaces and the particular equine needs. We are always conscious of safety issues, injuries to both the horse and the rider, as we look for effective solutions.
